Mr Hosam Serag began his basic training in the UK in Cambridge, Bristol, and Newport. Upon completion, he joined the UK urology national training programme and obtained MRCS, FRCS (Urol), and FEBU before completing his urology training in 2018.
He travelled to Canada in 2019, where he undertook a uro-oncology fellowship at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver General Hospital. His training involved complex open cancer resections and robotic surgery. On his return to the UK, he joined University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust as a consultant urological surgeon. His clinical focus is on urological cancer, particularly advanced renal and retroperitoneal cancer. He has wide experience in major open complex cancer resections, as well as laparoscopic and robotic renal surgery. He has an established tertiary referral practice at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
Alongside his training and professional career, Hosam has published several papers, written treatment guidelines, and contributed a book chapter on kidney cancer.
